OPINION: I have read in the latest issue of the Forest and Bird magazine that the National Party was the only one not pledging to support a ban on shark finning.

This cruel and wasteful practice involves cutting off the shark's fins and throwing the rest of the shark overboard while still alive. This practice could drive some shark species towards extinction.

Do we as New Zealanders, who espouse that we are a clean and green country, wish to continue endorsing this barbaric practice in our own territorial waters?
