Letters from Skye
By Jessica Brockmole (Random House, RRP $35)
My love for this story was instant. From the moment I saw the beautiful postmark decorated lettering splashed across the ocean blue and green cover, to the moment I realised it was an epistolary novel (a novel written in letters).
One day in 1912, Elspeth receives a letter from David, expressing his admiration for her book of poetry.
Elspeth, flattered by the communication, responds and sparks a quick friendship. Sharing the same views of life, a passion for literature and the hope of something great to happen, Elspeth and David fall in love.
The war inevitably tears them apart along with her husband and her family.
Inspired by a visit to Isle of Skye, author Jessica Brockmole has delivered a beautiful, and poignant story of love, loyalty and luck.
If you are a fan of letters, a fan of literature and of course, a fan of love, then you, like me will love this story.
You will read it late into the night and be an emotional wreck at the end. Letters from Skye is simply gorgeous, in every way.
