OPINION: We are in danger of losing our distinctive rolling Rs here in Southland.
A new language is appearing on our television sets, used by North Island announcers. They are ignoring our melodic Rs and substituting the sound ''ah''.
Thus we have ''towah'' (tower), ''powah'' (power), ''flowah'' (flour)"and ''showah'' (shower).
No doubt your readers could provide you with other examples.
Perhaps we'd could start up a Save Our Rs campaign.
