Briana Miller and her sister Hannah won the under-14 girls and senior girls' events, respectively, at the Southland secondary schools' cross-country championships at Ivon Wilson Park in Te Anau yesterday.

In fine weather and with good footing, Briana ran 3000m in 14min 56sec to break the under-14 girls' race-record by 0.5sec.

The girls are students at Southland Girls' High School. Jack Beaumont, of Northern Southland College, won the senior boys' race. He is set for the Gore Half Marathon on Sunday.
