Wilson on bench as Saints claim title
Former Southland rugby player James Wilson has won an English premiership title with Northampton Saints.
The Saints beat Saracens 24-20 after the game had gone into extra time for the first time in the 12-year history of the premiership.
Alex Waller sealed victory for Northampton with a converted try in the 100th minute.
Wilson, who was on the bench for the final, has played for the Saints since 2012 and was part of last year's team that lost the finale to the Leicester Tigers.
The 66-game Stags player, who also played Super Rugby for the Highlander and Chiefs, was planning to return to Invercargill in the next few weeks before heading back for another season in English club rugby.
