Rovers retain challenge cup
The big margin trend continued in the Premier Women's Kolk Cup competition games played yesterday.
League leader Queenstown Rovers had a comfortable 8-0 win over the Southend United Development team at Queenstown, with Trish Johnson grabbing a hat-trick of goals.
Her effort was supported with goals from Rose O'Neill (2), Stephanie White and Gina Lilly enabling the resort team to retain both the Ottley challenge cup and their 100 per cent winning sequence.
At the ILT Turf, Southend United also defended their 100 per cent winning sequence when they claimed a 7-1 win over Queens Park.
Jackie Robertson was the chief destroyer for Southend with four goals, while Theresa Rhein, Hayley Munro and Tracey McKay were also on target.
Lauren Christie added Queens Park's consolation goal.
Southend United and Queenstown have one more game to overcome if they are to remain on maximum points heading into their much anticipated clash on June 22 in Invercargill.
Women's Kolk Cup: Thistle 8, Queens Park 2, 0; Old Boys 7, Western Rovers 0; Waihopai 6, Gore Wanderers 0.
