Southland shooters did their national selection justice at the Australian National Skeet Championships in Wagga Wagga recently.

Lindsay Rodgers and Kelvin Gutsell were part of the New Zealand team which competed against Australia for the Glenn Trophy. New Zealand lost narrowly but Rodgers and Gutsell teamed up to win the Australian high overall two-man team title.

Rodgers, from Wyndham, was first in the AA grade 12 gauge All States pre nationals event while Gutsell, of Gore, produced a long list of standout results.

Rodgers shot 542 of the 550 targets to finish first in the AA grade high gun.

He was also first in the AA grade 20 gauge after a shoot-off of 437 targets.

Gutsell was first in the AA grade Champion of Champions and picked up a second in the AA grade 28 gauge.

The other Southland shooter to take part was Ewen Pirie, who was also team manager but took part in several shoot-offs.
