SBHS, Menzies the best of Southland

Southland Boys' High School and Menzies College will fly the Southland flag in the top-eight section of the Highlanders First XV schoolboy rugby competition for the remainder of the season.

The first phase of the 14-team competition was completed on Saturday, with itbeing split into top eight and bottom six sections from now.

Defending champions Otago Boys' High School again are the front-runners.

Southland Boys' qualified fourth, while Menzies College grabbed the eighth spot with a 19-8 win over fellow Eastern Southland school St Peter's College in the game played on Friday night.

St Peter's College, Gore High School, James Hargest College and Central Southland College will be the Southland schools in the bottom-six section.

They will face Central Southland schools in Mount Aspiring and Dunstan High in what is expected to be a tight bottom-tier competition.
