Stags hopefuls get one last chance to impress
The Stags 2014 squad is expected to be named in the next two days with the decision-makers to take one final look at the video from games played at the weekend.
New Southland coach Brad Mooar used Saturday's club final and yesterday's Spartans versus Sassenachs game as the last chance for players to impress before a squad of probably 27 players is named.
The Spartans team from Southland lost to Otago's Sassenachs 36-19 in Dunedin, and Mooar said it was a good learning curve for some players that at the next level any small mistake would be pounced on.
The bonus from yesterday's game is there were no serious injuries for the Stags coaching team.
"It was just another really good hitout and the final piece to the puzzle really. It's been a good couple of days with the club final and today's game," Mooar said yesterday.
"We are in that tough position now to decide who is going to miss out.
"We've got more people who have put their hands up than places, which is a good thing, but it is a tough job," he said.
