Southland men get mixed start
Southland v Central Otago
The Southland men's representative season got off to a mixed start with the seniors losing 8 to Central Otago's 11 and some very close matches at the contest held at Jacks Point at the weekend.
However, the masters had a comprehensive win, 9 to 2 , beating Central Otago 6-0 in the second round.
The Southland Golf Club retained the Laing Shield on Saturday, beating Gore 6-0.
It was held in cool and breezy conditions, which favoured the home club.

Southland's (Oreti Sands) next challenge will be from Waikaka next month.
The fourth and final round of the Great ILT Southern Challenge is being played at Greenacres on Sunday, with both morning and afternoon rounds.
Southland have a healthy lead after three rounds, 421 points, followed by Queens Park, 407, Invercargill, 387, and Greenacres, 372.
Ladies Town v Country
The annual contest between Town and Country for the Jackman Salver is being held at Mataura on Monday, with both silver and bronze divisions. Country were the winners last year but Town will be aiming to regain the trophy.
