All good things eventually come to an end. For the Dipton Golf Club ladies team that's just what happened on Tuesday.
Almost two years ago, the small club, which boasts just 10 female members, won the Gilmour Rosebowl when they defeated Mataura in a challenge.
The Gilmour Rosebowl is the symbol of surpremacy for interclub ladies golf in Southland.
Since Dipton beat Mataura in 2007 they had resisted 17 challenges but were this week pipped by Tokanui to end the run.
Tokanui is also a small club and its members also have a hilly course to contend with.
Many challengers had struggled to adapt to the hilly Dipton course but not Tokanui on Tuesday.
Tokanui's first challenge of the Gilmour Rosebowl will be against Tuatapere next month.
Dipton still holds the men's equivalent of the Gilmour Rosebowl, which is the Laing Shield.
