Southern Steel are aiming to grow their fan base even more next season by offering membership vouchers for the first time.
Steel marketing and sponsorship manager Melanie Luke said the initiative was designed to encourage new memberships – something the franchise had not focused on since its inception in 2008.
"It's really important for us to keep evolving membership ...we want to entice more people to become Steel members."
The vouchers, which go on sale from December 1 at Stadium Southland and H&J Smith, can be redeemed by the recipient for a platinum or gold membership for next season. Then from January 25, people can exchange their vouchers and secure their seat for Steel home matches in next year's trans-Tasman competition.
Existing Steel members have from December 1 to January 22 to renew their membership and guarantee their favourite seat for next season.
This season Steel had 1450 members, the most of any of the New Zealand ANZ Championship franchises, and Luke said they were keen to keep building that strong support base.
Platinum membership, which costs $175, includes a seven-game pass to all Invercargill and Dunedin matches. It also offers the chance to win a $4000 diamond earring and pendant set from Coats and Shuck Jewellers, a voucher book containing $175 of discounts from H&J Smith, and free buses from Invercargill and Dunedin to games.
Gold membership costs $125 and includes entry to all five Steel matches in Invercargill and the chance to win a $125 voucher book from H&J Smith.
Luke advised fans to get in early, with those who bought a membership before December 18 going into the draw to win the use of a new Kia vehicle for a week from Southland Vehicle Sales.
Steel begin next year's ANZ Championship at Stadium Southland against West Coast Fever on March 21.
