Invercargill's Eddie Dawkins and fellow New Zealand representative Simon Van Velthooven have fought out a rare dead heat in the final of the men's sprint during the Festival of Speed tonight.

Van Velthooven had looked to have won the final before commissaires disqualified him for riding below the track across the final line.

Spurred on by the crowd the pair decided to re-run the final, with another twist coming when the two sprinters could not even be seperated by the finish line camera.

New South Wales cyclist Casandra Kell beat Invercargill's Natasha Hansen in the women's final.

The three-day Festival of Speed carnival ends tomorrow night with keirin racing and the final events of the men's omnium.
