Southland age-group league teams will hold games on Sunday as they count down the days to their biggest test in many years.

A South Island under-15 and under-17 league tournament will be held next month and Southland will line up teams in both grades at the tournaments to start in Christchurch on July 1.

The teams were selected a month ago and have been training since.

On Sunday, both teams will play pre-tournament preparation games.

The Bruce Williams-coached Southland under-15 team will have a hitout against the Winton under-17 side at the Central Pirates Rugby Club, while the Southland under-17 team will play an invitational team at Elles Rd.

The South Island under-15 and under-17 teams will be picked from the tournament for the national competition in August.

The Southland teams will leave for Christchurch on June 30 and return on July 3.
