While He Tauaa and the Cowboys look to have already sewn up a place in the semifinals of the Southland club league competition, the remaining two spots remain open.
With three rounds to play before the top four head into the playoffs, Cooks, Winton and Mataura look to be in a three-way scrap for the coveted two vacant spaces.
Wakatipu would still regard themselves a longshot, although they would have to win their remaining three games and hope other results go their way.
Just one point separates Cooks in third spot and Winton in fifth.
From the three likely teams, Cooks probably have the best run home, with games against City-Invercargill and Wakatipu in their remaining three fixtures.
Form would suggest they could win both of those, which would then result in Mataura and Winton scrapping it out for the final spot in the semifinals.
That would set up a mouth-watering final-round game between the two teams, with everything pointing to that being a virtual quarterfinal showdown.
