The Southland under-17 netball team took a win and a loss in the first day of competition in the New Zealand Age Group Netball Championships in Christchurch.
It was an early start on the first day of the competition when Southland took on Wanganui at 9am yesterday, beating them 36-31.
A standout performance came from shooter Eden Millan.
She netted all 26 of her shots in that game.
Southland then faced Auckland at 12.30pm.
But they lost 48-23.
Under-17 coach Fiona Ward said even though the girls lost, they played really well.
She said defender Kate Gilchrist was a notable player in that game as the defensive end was quite strong.
Southland take on South Otago today at 9.30am.
The New Zealand Age Group Netball Championships started yesterday and finish on Thursday when the finals will be played.
There are 28 teams competing in the tournament.
