Brock Miller won his first boxing bout when the youngster took part in the Canterbury Boxing Championships held in Christchurch at the weekend.
Miller, from Deano's Gym, was one of five Southland boxers who made the trip to Christchurch for the Canterbury championships.
He lined up in the junior 52kg division and beat Kane Sillifant, from Riverside, 12-8.
In the 70kg novice section Mike Molloy, from Elite Boxing and Fitness, beat Papanui's Jordon Strong after the referee stopped the contest in the second round.
In the open class 40kg division, Southland had Rakai Matika, of the Gore Boxing Club, and he was beaten by Awatea Henry, of Dunedin, on a countback with the score locked at 4-all.
In the 42kg division Jason Scobie (Tui's Gym) was beaten by Kaelan Boyce (Redwood) 11-2.
In the 60kg division Aaron Lay (Gore) beat Te Aho Flanagan (Fidow's) 7-3, but was beaten in the final by Marcus Jones (Clifton) 3-1.
