The Winton Lions Club will hold its annual fundraising tournament at Winton Golf Club on Sunday, October 7, raising funds for the Southland IHC - and organisers are calling on all golfers to back the worthy cause and head to Winton for the day.

The charity tournament is a team event in which the best ball of your team counts.

It is 4BBB Nett, with four golfers to a team, and teams can be all men, all women, or mixed.

Starting times will be between 9.30am and 2pm and with prizes to the value of $2000 and free barbecue meals at tees 8 and 13, it promises a fun day out.

You can put your entry in with rbandlbell@paradise. or simply turn up with your team and enter on the day.

Paul Pou (Oreti Sands) and Marvin Ihaia (Bluff) were the winners of the weekend's Gold Cup, played at SBS Bank Invercargill Golf Club.

The Winton pairing of Kelvin Moylan and Grant Baker was second, with Nigel Russell and Justin Dimond third.

With 40 pairs from throughout Southland, the field was a good one, the weather was perfect and the greens were smooth and fast, which made for a great weekend of golf.

The Hedgehope Golf Club ladies are holding a 4BBB tournament on October 29.

This is more than likely set to be the last tournament run by the ladies, and organisers are inviting past ladies members to join them for afternoon tea following the tournament.

The tournament will tee off at 10.15am and more information is available by emailing Pat Cronin at
