Tyler McLean and Robyn Boniface are the Southland matchplay champions, after winning the male and female division one titles respectively at Gore Golf Club on Sunday.
The weekend's championships produced some impressive golf, played in good conditions, and the scores reflected that - Scott Hellier scoring 64, seven below par, in qualifying.
But it was McLean's day, with the Invercargill golfer winning the final against Jeremy Hall 2 and 1.
Boniface, meanwhile, eased past Olivia Frost in the women's division one final, winning 4 and 3.
Matt Tautari won division two, and Tony Chadderton division three, while for the women, Pam Macleod won division two.
Boniface said the weekend's play indicated Southland golf was in good stead.
“People were playing very, very well and there was some very good golf across all divisions,” she said.
Almost 60 golfers contested the championships.
With the representative season about to get into full swing, Golf Southland took the weekend's championships as a chance to announce five strong teams to contest various tournaments coming up.
The Southland under-21, senior and masters men's teams were announced to play in a triangular event at the Otago Golf Club this weekend (October 6 and 7).
The women's team to contest the South Island championships on October 13 and 14, was also announced, as well as the women's masters team, which will look to defend their national title at the New Zealand Women's Masters Tournament, being held in Invercargill early next month.
While all teams are capable of fantastic results, there is certain to be plenty of pressure on the women's masters team in particular.
There was one change from last year's team, which won its third consecutive national title and, with home advantage, all eyes will be on making it four in a row.
