Debut win for Cowan with Gloucester
Former Southland halfback Jimmy Cowan has got off to a winning start with his Gloucester club in England.
Cowan was brought off the bench with 22 minutes remaining as his team beat Bath 16-10 in the English Premiership yesterday.
The Daily Telegraph newspaper described Cowan's first appearance as "rusty". However, he will, no doubt, be better off for the run.
Former All Blacks first five-eighth Stephen Donald scored all 10 points for Bath in the loss, with a try, conversion and penalty.
Gloucester's win lifts them to fifth on the premiership table.
Cowan played his final game for Southland against Northland last month. The 30-year-old finished his time in New Zealand rugby with more than 100 games for both the Stags and the Highlanders, and 51 tests for the All Blacks.
