Plenty of tents are going up today on the banks of the Oreti River at Sandy Point in preparation for one of Southland's bigger sporting and social events on the calendar.

The Waihopai Rowing Club's Corpor8 Challenge will be held tomorrow with 423 competitors set to take to the Oreti River water with an estimated 2000 people all up expected to attend the event in some capacity.

Business from throughout the region have entered with 22 crews taking part in the eights competition and 11 lining up in the quad section.

The event is the Waihopai Rowing Club's major annual fundraiser with the 2012 event expected to raise close to $20,000.

Regatta organisor John O'Connor said it took a lot of volunteer hours to put on the event which included supplying every crew with a coach.

The regatta will start at 8am tomorrow.
