Invercargill-based Metropolitan have drawn leading Dunedin club Green Island in the semifinals of the Southland/Otago club knockout competition on Sunday.
The Metropolitan Tigers was the first team drawn out to host a semifinal, with Dunedin clubs University-Grange and Kaikorai squaring off in the other semifinal in Dunedin on the same day.
Metro advanced to the semifinal stage of the knockout competition after recording a tense, three-wicket win over Carisbrook-Dunedin in the quarterfinal.
Green Island is regarded as the form team in Dunedin at the moment and is favoured to win the Dunedin club competition, so will provide a stern test for the Southland club.
The winners of the Southland/Otago knockout competition will advance to the national finals in Auckland.
The club knockout game will be played at the Metro ground at Queens Park on Sunday starting at 11am.
A Southland XI will play Otago under-19 on the main ground at Queens Park on Sunday, giving Southland coach Steve Jackson a chance to cast his eye over plenty of Hawke Cup prospects.
