Southland have gone down fighting against Wellington at the interprovincial women's golf tournament in Dunedin today.
The fancied Wellington outfit was made to work hard for a 3-2 victory in the final match of divisional play, with Southland No 1 Robyn Pullar beating her capital counterpart Julianne Alvarez 2/1 and Olivia Frost downing Barbara Parreno.
Unfortunately, Southland was unable to pull off what would have been their third win at St Clair this week with Angela Gerken losing 3/2 to Te Rongopai Clay, Kerry Mariu going down 4/3 to Lucy Davis and Bronwyn O'Brien losing 4/3 to Alanah Braybrook.
In other results, Laura Hoskin, daughter of Southland and Otago cricketer Richard Hoskin, has led Otago to an upset win over Canterbury.
Hoskin's 4/3 victory over Canterbury's Sylvie Williams helped Otago to a 3-2 win.
Southland will now take on a team from the other division tomorrow to decide its final placing in the tournament.
