The Southland women's golf team has finished ninth at the interprovincial golf tournament in Dunedin today after a countback against Otago.
The playoff match for ninth place between the two teams was shared 2-and-a-half matches each with Arrowtown's Laura Hoskin beating Southland No 1 Robyn Pullar 2/1, while Southland's Angela Gerken squared her match with Jo Hicks-Beach.
Olivia Frost and Kerry Mariu both beat their Otago opponents with 4/2 wins, but Bronwyn O'Brien was beaten 8/7 by Otago's Susan Greig.
That result meant officials had to go to a countback to find a winner.
Both teams had secured two team wins during the week, so the match had to be decided by the team with the most individual wins.
Southland narrowly trumped Otago on individual victories, taking that comparison 15-14.
In other results, Auckland beat Bay of Plenty 3-2 to advance to the final, where it met Wellington, a 3-2 winner over Waikato in the other semifinal.
Canterbury secured fifth place with a 3.5-1.5 win over Manawatu/Wanganui, Taranaki claimed seventh with a 3-2 win over North Harbour.
Hawke's Bay finished 11th with a 4-1 win over Northland, while Aorgani consigned Tasman to the wooden spoon with a 4-1 win in their playoff.
