Hawken siblings end top year promising more
Southland Olympic Weightlifting's year ended on a high with a personal best snatch of 41kg by 15-year-old Jade Hawken.
She has had a stellar year, setting under-15 year records, improving her technique and impressing the enthusiasts.
Hawken shows a definite degree of maturity in her lifting that can only get better. She clean and jerked 46kg to total a superb 87kg.
Ethan Hawken, Jade's well-performed older brother, has also had a splendid year full of improvements and is promising to really excite at national level next season. He totalled an excellent 175kg.
At 16, Ethan Hawken has the potential to really make waves in the year ahead.
Top national senior female lifter Ruth Anderson-Horrell convincingly totalled 156kg to show that she is creating a personal niche in New Zealand weightlifting.
She lifts with great enthusiasm and good technique.
Eighteen-year-old Ashleigh MacDougall, another to have had a very good year, totalled 121kg.
MacDougall has shown year-long dedication and this has resulted in improvements throughout the year.
A new senior lifter, Michael Ungerer, demonstrated excellent technique to total 185kg. He has raw potential and is someone to watch in 2013.
