Duffy Volts into contention
Southland's Ryan Duffy staked his claim for Otago Volts selection by scoring a century for Otago A on the third and final day of their showdown with the touring Tasmania A team yesterday.
The 21-year-old has been in fine form, his hundred yesterday the fourth of this season. He has also scored two for Metro in Southland club cricket and one in a Southland trial game.
His century against Tasmania A, though, was the most important in terms of his aspirations as he has just waved his name in front of the Volts selectors as a possible option.
In Otago A's first innings, the older brother of Volts bowler Jacob Duffy made 52 before backing it up with the century in the second.
There was more success for the Southland contingent in the Otago A team with Australian import Ryan Myer scoring 63 and putting on 95 for the sixth wicket.
The match finished a draw with Otago A nine down at stumps and Duffy unbeaten on 115. He batted through the entire 80 over innings facing 238 balls.
Otago A and Tasmania A will now meet in a one-day fixture today in Dunedin.
