The four Invercargill major league softball teams travelled to Dunedin for the annual intercity tournament last weekend at Ellis Park.
Two teams, Demons Red and Demons Blue made the semifinals, with the Blue team going down, 6-3 to Cardinals of Dunedin. Demons Red came out ahead of Saints of Dunedin, 9-1.
Jonathan Campbell was awarded the top batter trophy with an average of .643, and Shawn Coombe from Demons Blue was awarded the top pitcher award with an earned run average of 0.626.
On the local Invercargill scene, only four games were played, with the premier league game between the two ILT Dodgers teams, Eagles and Brewers, going to the Eagles, 6-5. Rex McCormack was in front with the bat for the Brewers, with four hits, followed by Joe Nicholls, Robert Finlay, Simon Gilbert (2)
In Premier 2, Wallacetown Green and Demons went to two tie-breaker innings before Wallacetown came out in front, 19-14. Andrew Stark had a good day with the bat with four hits for Wallacetown, as did Jonathon Mitchell. Shaun Mitchell and Cole Roughan (3), Kendra Todd (2)
Tyler Dewe (3) Dean Ronald, Connor O'Brien (2) for Demons.
On the Premier 3 diamond, Fernhill Lime Wallacetown defeated Odd Sox, 14-4, and ILT Dodgers Misfits came out ahead of an improved showing by Panthers Collegiate, 21-16.
