Organisers delighted by turnout
Southland Boys' High School took out the 2013 Southland secondary school softball championship on Sunday, beating Verdon College in the final.
Boys' High were the dominant team at the tournament, recording a 32-0 win over Aurora College and 9-0 win over St Peter's College in section play to advance to the final.
James Hargest College came third and St Peter's College fourth.
An invitational team made up by the Southland Softball Association won the junior division.
Southland Boys' were runners-up and James Hargest College came third.
Southland Softball was encouraged by the response to the tournament, with 10 teams competing, up on the three teams that entered last year.
Of the 105 players who took part in this year's tournament, 35 of them are not currently registered softball players.
