New urgency for teams in next round

Wyndale kept their Combined Country play-off hopes alive on Saturday with a win over the Appleby Cannons and now eye a must win fixture this Saturday.

The Wyndale side sit in fifth position with two rounds to play, six points behind the Metro Cubs and Tuatapere who fill third and fourth place and must bet Metro on Saturday to bridge the cap.

Wyndale comfortably knocked over Appleby which started by restricting them to 154 for nine on the back of Scott Gutsell taking four for 30.

They then had few problems chasing the total down with Cameron McLeod leading the charge with a knock of 65.

The in-form Wyndale team will meet a Metro team also coming off a confidence boosting victory.

Metro dished up a commanding 171 run win over Lumsden at home on Saturday with the star of the show Daniel Mills.

The left-handed player struck a blazing 81 which is believed to have come off only 30-odd balls as he set up Metro's 321 for eight batting first against Lumsden.

Captain Karl McKee then did the job with the ball taking five for 46 as Lumsden were restricted to 150 in reply.

The Waikoikoi juggernaut toppled Tuatapere with few problems.

They racked up 249 for six batting first on the back of plenty contributions from Grant Anderson (55), Glen Patterson (43), Nathan Howden (41*) and Greg Saunders (41).

Tuatapere only got through to 107 in reply with Jared McKenzie the chief destroyer taking three for 30 and Sam McCall chipping in with two for 16.
