Play has finally got under way in today's Ford Trophy game between the Otago Volts and Wellington Firebirds in Invercargill.
The game was scheduled to start at Queens Park at 11am but was delayed until 2pm because of morning rain. It has also been shortened from 50 overs to 39.
Otago won the toss and put Wellington into bat, with Sam Blakely the 12th man for Otago and Tipene Friday carrying the drinks for the visitors. The game is a crunch one for both teams in the context of the Ford Trophy one-day competition with the Volts winless after three rounds and Wellington winning just the one game.
The top four teams after the round-robin series will progress to the semi-finals.
