It has been less than six months since the Southland women's masters golf team won its fourth consecutive national title but it will be back in action to defend the title in early April.

An experienced and unchanged lineup including Robyn Boniface, Robyn Pullar, Kerry Mariu and Fiona Murray will be looking for a record fifth title when the tournament tees off at Fielding Golf Course next month.

The national tournament was last played in November at SBS Bank Invercargill Golf Club and the 2013 edition will be played in Fielding from April 5 to 7. Golf Southland was among several regions which supported the calendar move, largely due to the November date being too close to the New Zealand Women's Toro Interprovincial with a number of players being eligible for both teams.

While the Southland team will certainly be looking to keep the national teams' title in the south, where it has sat comfortably for the past four years, a close eye will also be kept on the individual title which has been won by a Southlander for the past five years. Robyn Boniface won the title for four consecutive years, before Robyn Pullar played her way into the title last year.

❏ Southland's best female golfers will tee off for the Southland Women's 54-hole Open Stroke Play Championship at Invercargill Golf Club on March 25 and 26.

The tournament, sponsored by SBS Bank, will include 36 holes on the Monday and 18 on the Tuesday and organisers are expecting both the silver and bronze divisions to be highly competitive.

Stableford prizes will also be included this year. Entries close on Wednesday (March 20). All enquiries can be made to rmbaillie@xtra.co.nz or geonga@vodafone.co.nz.

❏ There are a number of tournaments coming up on the calendar, including the Chamber of Commerce annual ambrose golf tournament on March 22 at the Gore Golf Club.

The tournament has been running annually for the past 12 years, designed as a business house tournament for staff and clients, and is also open to club golfers. The format for the tournament is a four-person ambrose - contact julian.morris@craigsip.com for more information or to register.

Greenacres Golf Club will hold its ladies tournament on March 17, with a 10.30am tee-off. Please contact Jill Goodall at cameo.inv@paradise.net.nz for more details.

Winton Golf Club's March Greensome will also be held on Sunday, with a 12.30pm tee-off.

Hedgehope Golf Club will also host its annual 27-hole tournament on Sunday.
