Southern Steel were trying out the newly laid centre court at the Stadium Southland velodrome today.

The sprung floor has been put in place for Steel's trans-Tasman netball competition and the Sharks' 2013 New Zealand NBL campaign, which gets under way next month.

Steel start their 2013 campaign against the Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane on Sunday, and while they will play their first ''home'' game against the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Dunedin in round two, won't play in Invercargill until the round six clash against the Northern Mystics.
