EYE ON THE BALL: Hannah Cooke, left, playing for Southland in its game against Hamilton City this afternoon.

Despite Madeleine Hunt's excellent shooting in the final quarter, Southland lost to Hamilton City in section play at the New Zealand under-17 age group netball championships in Hastings this afternoon.

Southland lost 30-34 after winning against Rotorua 35-17 this morning and Mid Canterbury 53-28 yesterday.

Coach Rata Hopa said Hunt's nine goals from nine shots in the last quarter was impressive.

''Our defence was good, but we didn't look after the ball on attack,'' Hopa said.

Southland needs to beat Northern 1 tomorrow morning to stay in contention at the championships.
