North Harbour 1 was too strong for Southland in a top 16 play off game at the New Zealand under 17 age group netball championships in Hastings this morning.

Southland went down 15-34 to a well drilled North Harbour 1 side.

''They were a very polished team that did the basics well. Our girls didn't quite step up to the mark,'' Southland coach Rata Hopa said.

''Our captain Laura Overton played a gutsy strong game, never gave up.''

Southland's next game today is against Taranaki at 2.25pm.
