Invercargill CrossFit exponent Ruth Anderson Horrell has turned in her best performance at the World CrossFit Championships despite suffering a serious injury in the lead-up to the event.

Anderson Horrell had previously finished 31st and 17th at the finals in California, but managed to finish 15th overall in a quality field that was headed by her training partner and new "fittest woman on earth" Samantha Briggs.

Anderson Horrell's best results in the 12-event programme were the Burden Run, where she finished second, and a 21km row where she finished third.

That was despite a painful training mishap before the finals which left her with bulging discs along her spine.

Anderson Horrell, who finished second at the Australasian regional qualifier, had considered withdrawing from the championships, but an MRI scan confirmed she would not do any more damage by competing and she instead sought a range of treatments, including magnet, laser and acupuncture therapy.
