Girls keeping it cool
Most winter sports are beginning to wrap up for the season but a trio of Gore girls are keeping it cool on the ice.
Nicola Henare, 13, Beth Scott, 11, and Rebecca Lilly, 14, are off to Queenstown this weekend to compete in the New Zealand Ice Hockey Championships, where Beth and Nicola will play in the under-13 grade and Rebecca in the senior women's.
They will all represent southern, a massive region encompassing everywhere from Tekapo south.
Nicola's mum, Tania Henare, said it was a great achievement for the girls to be in the team.
They were selected after their respective strong performances in club and regional ice hockey, she said.
The girls are no strangers to life on the ice, Rebecca and Beth have been playing for four years and Nicola for eight, and all play for the club, the Gore Grizzlies.
The Queenstown tournament is on from August 15 to 18.
