The Otago Volts' positive buildup to the lucrative Champions League tournament in India continues.

The Volts are this week in Tauranga training and playing warmup games against a Selection 11 as part of the run-in to the Champions League Twenty20 tournament next month.

The Champions League is for the best domestic Twenty20 teams from around the world.

The Volts have headed to Tauranga for the drier climate where a suitable pitch can be prepared in the winter months.

They are taking on a Selection 11 made of Northern Districts players mixed with Black Caps prospects.

On Monday the Volts produced a commanding 10-wicket win and yesterday made it two from two, although the win did not come as comfortably as the first.

The Volts restricted the Selection 11 to 113 batting first, with Southland's Jacob Duffy the pick of the bowlers with three for 15 from his four overs.

Otago were far from convincing in reply and at one stage were struggling at 67 for seven.

However, some late order heroics from Marc Craig (20 not out), Nick Beard (20) and Duffy (8 not out) ensured they grabbed the win with two wickets and 11 balls to spare.

The two teams will meet again this afternoon.
