The Freeski Open of New Zealand -the only event in the world to hold Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Big Mountain competitions in one - is all set to go today.
Now in its ninth year, The North Face-sponsored event was granted silver status by the AFP World Tour for the Park and Pipe events while the Big Mountain was classified as a 3-star Freeride World Qualifying event.
For the world's best freeskiers, this is a rare chance to test themselves against world class opponents ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games .
Among those in town are Devin Logan (US), Taylor Seaton (US), Henrik Harlaut (Sweden), Noah Morrison (Canada), Gus Kenworthy (US), Nick Goepper (US), Tiril Christiansen (Norway), Lisa Zimmermann (Germany), and Charles Gagnier (Canada).
The action kicks off today at the Cardrona Alpine Resort with the slopestyle qualifiers.
