Rams game cancelled
The South Island provincial rugby league game between Southland and the West Coast has had to be abandoned.
The Rams were set to play the West Coast at noon today at Sandy Point's Les George Oval, near Invercargill, but a series of calamities hit the travelling Coast side.
The West Coast team bus was caught up in a road accident at Arthur's Pass on the way to Christchurch and the bus later broke down.
Arriving in Christchurch late yesterday afternoon, the West Coast missed their flight south to Invercargill and were unable to make alternative arrangements in time for today's game.
The Rams will now be gifted the two points from the defaulted game.
Southland District Rugby League chairwoman Cheryl Low said losing out on hosting a game was unfortunate.
''The situation is very disappointing for SDRL and all concerned but it is simply outside our control,'' she said.
