Southland's rugby sevens club competition will kick off at 6.30 tonight at the Woodlands rugby club.
The competition involves three weeks of round-robin play and is organised by Rugby Southland sevens co-ordinator Ray Sotutu.
Seven teams are competing, and Tokanui and Gore would also host round-robin play.
The quarterfinals, semifinals and final would be played at Rugby Park in Invercargill.
The seven teams involved in this year's competition are Eastern Northern Barbarians, Midlands, Woodlands, Marist, Pirates Old Boys, Tokanui and a team made up of local Fijian players.
The final will be the curtainraiser for the Southland Stags' game against Hawke's Bay on October 3.
Meanwhile, Southland Country will take on Canterbury Country in Mossburn tomorrow from 7pm.
