Southland defeated Otago on countback in their annual interprovincial table tennis clash in Invercargill on Sunday.
Eight teams of juniors and seniors competed in the match with the juniors winning four matches for Southland.
However Otago also took four matches but on countback Southland took the win 53 games to 43.
The under-13 boy's team of Damian Mitchell, Andrew Fleming and Caleb Duffy won their match 12-0 while the junior girls team of Laura Geraghty, Holly Wu and Shelley Mitchell scored the same result against their opponents.
The under-11 and under-15 boys A team also won their matches for Southland while the under-15 boys B team, consisting of several newcomers, lost .
The three senior teams all went down to Otago, the highlight being young Southlander Michael Zhang's first ever win over his coach and Otago No 1 Ben Duffy.
Under-11 boys - won 8-4: Finn Holden, Hayden Wu, Thomas Walker.
Under-13 boys - won 12-0: Damian Mitchell, Andrew Fleming, Caleb Duffy.
Under-15 (A) boys - won 7-5: Matt Shields, Nathan Geraghty, Kent Verbeet.
Under-15 (B) boys - lost 12-0: Hamish Thwaites, Jean-Martin Fabre, Reuben Brown.
Junior girls - won 12-0: Laura Geraghty, Holly Wu, Shelley Mitchell.
A Grade - lost 7-5: Michael Zhang, Debbie Garrett, Willie Brock.
B Grade - lost 7-5: Phil Brock, Nathan Kennedy, Jeremy Gibson.
Veterans - lost 8-4: Clive Adamson, Steve Jenkins, Kelly Martin.
