The Southland men's netball team made a tough return to the national championships in Wellington yesterday - and that was even before the tournament started.
Five members of the 12-strong team were stranded in Christchurch on Tuesday night and after two aborted attempts at landing in the capital yesterday they were sent back to Christchurch before eventually finding their way to Palmerston North.
With all the rental cars already hired out, the players scrambled for an expensive taxi ride to Wellington.
Several other teams had their travel plans heavily disrupted.
On the court Southland fared little better in the B grade competition.
They were beaten 34-18 by Nelson/Tasman and 48-9 by Canterbury B.
Today they play three games. The tournament finishes on Saturday.
