The Southland under-18 rugby team continued its strong start to the 2013 campaign with a 54-0 win over Otago Country in Heriot on Saturday.
For the second straight week the Southland under-18s got out to a powerful start in the first half with early tries to Jaye Thompson-Te Muunu, Jim Bulitavu, Matt Collins and Sela Toga to lead 40-0 at halftime.
The early pace started to tell in the second half, with Otago Country coming back into the game and Southland adding just two more tries to push it out to 54-0.
Southland again looked good with ball in hand, with playmakers Thompson-Te Muunu and Greg Dyer breaking the line several times.
The loose-forward trio, led by a strong showing by Bulitavu, created plenty of headaches for the Otago Country defence.
Southland now face a showdown with Otago Metro at Rugby Park on Sunday to decide who tops the highlanders region pool before travelling to Christchurch to contest the South Island finals.
The Southland under-16 team also had a win, 25-15, over Otago Country in Heriot on Saturday, after trailing 15-8.
