Southland will attempt to defend the South Island secondary schoolgirl rugby tournament title in Gore this weekend.
Southland secondary schoolgirl rugby is currently in a strong position after winning the South Island tournament last year and Southland Girls' High School progressing to the national schools' final this season.
Southland is one four teams in this weekend's tournament, with the others a combined Hanan Shields districts team, Canterbury and Otago.
Southland will play the Hanan Shield team first at 10.30am on Saturday followed by Canterbury at 2.30pm.
On Sunday morning they play Otago in their final game. The team with the most points after their three games will take the 2013 South Island title.
The Southland under-16 and under-18 boys' teams also have big games this weekend.
They have started their 2013 representative season on a positive note both beating North Otago and Otago Country and on Saturday are expected to receive a perfect test against Otago Metro.
The under-16 game will start at 1pm followed by the under-18 game at 2.15pm.
