Bluff's Jimmy Ryan won his fourth Southland A-grade snooker title when he beat Invercargill's Ian Betts by four frames to two in the final, held at Club Southland.

Ryan was a class above all his opponents.

He found himself 2-1 down in the "best of seven frames" final but he won the next three frames to clinch the title.

Betts looked likely at times, but breaks fell down all too often and his frustration was evident as the match came to a conclusion.

Although the field was strong, two star players, Shannon Swain and Danny Ryan, were not on show this year.

Quarterfinals: J Ryan beat M Tuki 4-0, J Shaw beat T Thompson 4-1, C Bradbury beat A Gill 4-1, I Betts beat W Elliott 4-1.

Semifinals: J Ryan beat J Shaw 4-1, I Betts beat C Bradbury 4-3.

Final: Ryan beat Betts 4-2 (19-64, 62-37, 26-57, 66-33, 59-43, 71-58).

A-grade Plate: T Sherriff beat E Thwaites 2-0.

High breaks: J Ryan 58, M Gratton 53, J Shaw 52, L Eustace 48.
