Life doesn't get much better than returning to Southland with 11 medals after a national competition.
The Southland aerobics team of 11 athletes, coached by Tracey Maclennan, went to Napier on October 3 for the New Zealand gym sports championships.
They excelled, winning medals across eight different events, with every team member gaining at least one top-three placing.
All of the team belong to the Invercargill Gymnastics Club and attend a range of Invercargill schools.
With the team aged from 10 to 16 and six members switching from artistic gymnastics only this year, Maclennan was proud of the team's accomplishments.
"I was absolutely rapt, I mean they worked so hard for it, they really deserved it," Maclennan said.
The team received funding from the Community Trust of Southland and Southern Trust.
Next on the agenda for the team was to start training towards next year, with the aim of travelling to Auckland early in the year for experience and advice, Maclennan said.
