Southland have two New Zealand men's netball representatives.

Waka Parkinson has been named in the New Zealand senior men's team, while Alex Blair has been included in the New Zealand under-19 side.

Blair is in just his first year playing netball and has made an impressive rise up the ranks.

Originally he was not part of the Southland team but when he did get the callup he took his opportunity and was a consistent performer at the national tournament.

"He plays with a knowledge that belies his first year playing the game at that level and has proved to himself he can take on new challenges with ease," said coach Sarah Hamilton.

Despite Parkinson juggling netball with his commitments as part of the Invercargill Musical Theatre, he has impressed towards the end of the club season and at the national men's tournament in September.

"His energy and workrate inspire the team and he comes up with some spectacular plays," Hamilton said.

The New Zealand men's open and under-19 teams will take part in a trans-Tasman tournament next year.
