BARBS EXPECTED: Metro Tigers cricketer Ryan Duffy will take on many of his close friends when his side faces Kaikorai, who he plays for in Dunedin, in the Southland-Otago knockout final on Sunday.

Southland player Ryan Duffy was to get a small taste of life as a test cricketer by filling the 12th man role for New Zealand during the first test against West Indies starting in Dunedin today.

But his duties changed when Kane Williamson was ruled out of the test yesterday.

Williamson's withdrawal means Otago Volts batsman Aaron Redmond will come into the Black Caps lineup and bat at three.

It also means Duffy will head to Whangarei with the Volts to take on the Northern Knights in place of Redmond.

Duffy made his first-class debut last month when he opened the batting against Canterbury in Rangiora but was set to miss their next game with Neil Broom back in the mix and ready to open the batting with Redmond.

Duffy's inclusion in the Volts team has also ruled him out of lining up for Southland this weekend in their 2013-14 Hawke Cup campaign against North Otago in Oamaru.

Southland coach Steve Jackson is expected to name a team of 13 at their final training tomorrow night with one player to be omitted later in the week.
