Sharks season opens in April
Friday, April 4, is looming as an exciting one for Southland sport.
The fact the Southland Sharks will play their first game in the rebuilt Stadium Southland in itself makes for an attractive prospect but there is plenty more to attach to it.
Include that the NBL officials are sending Southland's arch-rivals the Otago Nuggets down for that opening game and also that the Sharks will drop their first NBL winning banner from the rafters on that night and it is a recipe for a big crowd.
Southland Sharks general manager Jill Bolger hoped with the rebuilt stadium and the title defence it would result in more bums on seats next year.
Bolger said the Zero Fees-sponsored Southland Sharks would put their 2014 season tickets up for grabs next week.
Current season ticket-holders will be able to buy their tickets from Monday through to Friday, December 13, and then new members will be able to buy their tickets from Monday, December 16, from the ILT Stadium.
"We wanted to get our 2014 season ticket sales under way to make sure people could buy them for Christmas presents."
Other home games will be Friday, April 11, Saturday, April 26, Saturday, May 3, Saturday, May 10, Friday, May 16, Sunday, June 1, Saturday, June 7, and Friday, June 20.
Casual ticket prices in 2014 are $18 for adults, $13 for students and $10 for children (plus $1 stadium booking fee).
The season tickets, which cover the nine home games, have been priced at $130 for adults, $100 for students, and $80 for children.
She said the team was close to signing more "exciting" players and was buoyed by the fact it had retained all of its sponsors from this year for the 2014 campaign.
