Sport Southland is encouraging Southlanders to make 2014 an active and eventful year and is kicking it off with the re-introduction of its popular 5K Series, which will start again on Wednesday night.
Sport Southland introduced the 5K run/walk series last year, and hundreds of Southlanders ran or walked around the Waihopai Floodbanks every week for seven weeks.
The event is chip-timed so people can track their progress.
The popularity of that prompted the regional sports trust to introduce three more events this year, giving people an ideal warmup to the Surf to City on February 9.
Sport Southland events manager Matt Sillars said the 5K Series was a great way to get started in the new year.
"It's a great distance to get you going and it's a fantastic environment - friendly and encouraging.
"We're really keen to get as many Southlanders as possible on the start line for the BNZ Surf to City and by introducing three more 5K events in the leadup, we think that's a great way to get people started and motivated to take on either the 12km or 6km event in the Surf to City."
The 5K Series will be held on January 22, January 29 and February 5. Entries can be made either online at 5kseries.co.nz or on the night, with registrations from 5.30pm and the event starting at 6.15pm.
Entries for the BNZ Surf to City are open and can be made at Sport Southland, any Southland BNZ branch, Allan White Sports, Wensley's Cycles, AMI Insurance and United Video South City.
